OUR STORY
10A was founded by the leadership of The Tenth, a media organization that has documented the history, ideas, aesthetics, and politics of the Black queer community for over six years. The Tenth was built to tell stories that reflect the breadth of Black queer experience and narrative, across all walks of life, putting members of our community in control of our stories through innovative, quality journalism.
This work led us to ask: exactly what constitutes “knowledge?” How is it shared and who gets to pass it down? And just what is a semester? A unit of learning? That can be accredited to an institution of “higher learning?” Is that even the destination? How do we center love and care en route to “understanding” through our learnings? And of equal importance, where and how do we make room for debate within our communities?
There was a fair amount of getting to the bottom of these things as we put together 10A’s first semester, which, all tea, all shade—is a dynamic mix of learning experiences that we put together just for you to engage the head (cerebral), heart (humanity), hands (tactile) and spirit (self-discovery and ancestral veneration).

ABOUT US
10A extends this charge of community-oriented storytelling with programs that place the power of knowledge transfer and educational architecture in the hands of Black and Brown queer leaders, scholars, practitioners, and most importantly, students themselves. 10A strives to bridge the gap in access between Black and Brown queer youth and adult learners and lessons in their history, past, present, and future.
Our story is birthed from Ballroom, from our ancestors in the Black Panther Party, from revolutionaries like Marsha P. Johnson, Bayard Rustin, and Audre Lorde, from a lineage that seeks to imagine, not just respond to. The future is Black and Queer.
